This is the New Sealion 7 fully electric SUV from BYD!

If you've been holding out for a stylish electric SUV that can really deliver on both performance and practicality—without breaking the bank—BYD might’ve just answered your prayers. The Sealion 7 has officially landed in the UK, and let us tell you, this isn't just another EV. It's a bit of a game-changer.

Coming hot off the back of the Dolphin, Seal, and Seal U, the Sealion 7 is BYD's latest showstopper in their Ocean Series. Think of it as a head-turning fusion of sporty attitude, futuristic tech, and family-friendly SUV practicality. And it’s all wrapped up in a package that genuinely feels fresh, forward-thinking, and, dare we say it—fun.

Big on Looks, Big on Presence

First impressions matter, right? And the SEALION 7 makes a killer one. It's a sleek fastback SUV that’s all muscle and grace, measuring a confident 4,830mm in length with a 2,930mm wheelbase that screams cabin space. It's got a powerful stance, with smooth lines and a punchy ducktail spoiler at the rear that gives it a little extra flair.

The front grille? Totally unique to the Ocean Series, featuring a futuristic 'X-face' design and LED headlights that look like they're straight out of a sci-fi movie. Everything about this car says it's ready to go places—and fast.

The Tech Beneath the Style

Let’s talk about what makes this thing tick: BYD’s much-hyped Blade Battery and the e-Platform 3.0 architecture. That’s the secret sauce. BYD has been building batteries longer than most carmakers have been building EVs. The Blade Battery is not only cobalt-free (yay, ethics!) but also ultra-safe and incredibly efficient.

Unlike your standard battery pack, BYD’s cell-to-body tech means the battery is basically a structural part of the car. Translation: better safety, more cabin space, and a super-stiff chassis that actually makes this SUV feel a bit sporty.

And safety? It passed the brutal Nail Penetration Test, which is basically the EV world’s equivalent of walking barefoot over hot coals. So yeah, it’s solid.

The Need for Speed (and Range)

The SEALION 7 isn’t just about looking pretty—it’s properly quick. Depending on the model, you’re getting either a single motor RWD setup or a dual-motor AWD beast. The Excellence AWD, the top-tier variant, puts out a total of 390kW (that’s 523hp in old money) and goes from 0 to 62mph in just 4.5 seconds. Oh, and it still tops out at 133mph.

But if you care more about miles than milliseconds, you’ll love the range. You’re looking at up to 312 miles WLTP in the big-battery version. Even the base Comfort spec manages a healthy 300 miles. Not too shabby.

Charging? Also impressive. The Excellence AWD can DC fast charge at up to 230kW, meaning you can go from 10% to 80% in just 24 minutes. Perfect for those impromptu road trips when the kids ask for a beach day out of nowhere.

Comfy Cabin Vibes

Step inside, and you’ll find a cabin that’s both lush and laid-back. It’s got serious lounge energy going on—plush materials, ambient lighting, and that massive panoramic sunroof to let the outside world in. There’s proper attention to detail here too. You’ve got ventilated and heated front seats, double-laminated windows for peace and quiet, and even a 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen. Yes, rotating.

BYD’s software is also a win. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are properly integrated (finally!), and you can control almost everything with voice commands that actually know who’s talking. Want to turn up the heat on the passenger side while you’re driving? Just ask.

Need boot space? The SEALION 7’s got you covered with a 520-litre boot, and if that’s not enough, there’s another 58 litres in the front. Plus 20+ cubby holes for drinks, phones, cables, snacks—you name it.

Road Manners that Impress

The SEALION 7 isn’t all go and no grace. Thanks to its double-wishbone front suspension, multi-link rear setup, and clever FSD dampers, it actually rides beautifully. The car adapts to the road beneath it—smooth and steady on motorways, but cushy when it hits bumps or potholes.

The AWD versions even get torque vectoring (called iTAC here), which makes cornering more secure and actually pretty enjoyable. It’s not quite a hot hatch, but it’s engaging in a way most family SUVs just aren’t.

You’ve got four drive modes—Eco, Normal, Sport, and Snow—so whether you're chasing efficiency or blasting down an empty B-road, you’re sorted.

All the Safety Kit You Could Want

This thing is packed to the gills with driver-assistance tech. We’re talking adaptive cruise control, lane centering, blind-spot monitoring, cross-traffic alert, fatigue warning, emergency braking—you name it. There are 11 airbags and even a child presence detection system.

It’s like having a personal assistant watching your back, and that’s something we can all get behind when schlepping the family around.

Which Sealion 7 is Right for You?

There are three specs to choose from:

  • Comfort RWD (82.5kWh battery, 300 miles WLTP)
  • Design AWD (dual motor, same battery, 283 miles WLTP)
  • Excellence AWD (dual motor, 91.3kWh battery, 312 miles WLTP, max tech and luxury)

Even the Comfort version is loaded with goodies like ventilated seats, dual-zone climate, V2L tech (yep, you can power your campsite), wireless charging, and BYD’s signature rotating screen. The Design adds 20-inch alloys and AWD performance. Excellence goes full-on premium with Nappa leather and a head-up display.

You’ve got four paint colours—Atlantis Grey, Indigo Grey, Polar White, and Space Black. Interiors come in Black or Tahiti Blue (that last one’s exclusive to Excellence).

Final Thoughts: A Genuine Contender

Let’s cut to the chase. The BYD Sealion 7 is not just another electric SUV. It’s stylish, insanely well-equipped, properly quick, and has range that beats out plenty of the big names. It’s BYD’s strongest pitch yet to UK drivers who want more from their EV—more performance, more luxury, more tech, more value.

And it delivers. Big time.

If you’re bored of the same old SUV choices and want something fresh, fun, and future-proof—the Sealion 7 might just be your next car. It’s not just BYD showing off. It’s BYD flexing. And we’re here for it.
