Aston Martin Vanquish S: Red Arrows Edition

Aston Martin Vanquish Red Arrows

The Vanquish S is a stunning car in it's own right, however this particular incarnation is a new level of beauty.

Possibly one of the prettiest Aston Martins ever made, in my opinion. The Red Arrow inspired car is one of only ten being commissioned by Aston Martin, all featuring unique exterior and interior styling, all in the name of the RAF's most prestigious aerobatics team.

Aston Martin Vantage and brief history

The Vantage

The beginning 1977

The Vantage a V8 powered car that pushed Aston Martin into the 1970's supercar genre, giving them the strength to achieve 'Producers of the World's fastest 4 seater production car'.

The Vantage name had a growing reputation already famed through various racing victories and its debut in Ian Fleming's James Bond, this type of publicity gave the car and Aston Martin in general the momentum to take on the global market.

The car soon became known as 'The car you would own one day'.

This phenominal automobile weighed a staggering 4000 lbs and was powered by a 5.3 litre quad cam V8 capable of producing 375 BHP and pushing the Vantage to a top speed of 170 mph.

The Aston Martin DB series of cars were already made famous by its earlier appearances in early James Bond films. David Brown, however wanted a 4 seater car faster than any other. In 1963 the British company embarked on a journey to develop a faster and better 4 seater. The project was plagued with continual engine problems, due to this the V8 wasn't ready till 1969.
The DBS V8 was formally launched in 1969 after being hampered by ownership changes & two shut downs this seriously delayed production of the new DBS Vantage. However the situation continued to get worse until enthusiasts and the new owners George Minden, Peter Sprague, & joined later by Alan curtis resurrected the car in 1978. Production continued for a further 12 years, until the new Vantage was released in 1993.

AM has gone from strength to strength in recent years with Models such as the ONE, the Vanquish and with the dawn of the Aston Martin EV.

With the new Bond film Spectre just round the corner, Aston Martin have unveiled the Bond edition DB9 GT,  now this seems a wise move. As long as I can remember one of these equivocally british sports cars has been at the helm of Q branches and James Bond's inventory list.

This deal will give Aston Martin the power to access the latest AMG Reasearch and Development and aid Aston in designing bespoke electronic architectures and V8 powertrains as well as support the next generation of Aston Martin cars when they launch.

Both firms signed a letter of intent earlier today, with a definitive agreement following before the new year.

Part of the deal constitutes that Daimler AG will own up to 5% of non-voting shares in Aston Martin joining the other shareholders, a supply agreement was also reached between Daimler, AMG & Aston Martin, in addition the British firm will continue to manufacture all of its sports cars at its Gaydon facility.

Development boss of Aston Martin Ian Minards said today: “Aston Martin sources cutting-edge technology from key suppliers around the globe and the opportunity to include content from Mercedes-AMG GmbH in our next-generation sports cars is, clearly, good news".

“Working with Mercedes-AMG in this way while, of course, remaining independent and preserving the unique character and style of Aston Martin that has been the mainstay of the company throughout its 100-year history, points to a very bright future for the company as it starts its second century in business.”

AMG boss, Ola Källenius said: “We are proud to work with Aston Martin and provide them with powertrain and electric/electronic components for their forthcoming sports cars. This is proof of AMG’s technological and performance expertise and a real win-win situation for both sides.”
