Aston Martin Vantage and brief history

(Reading time: 2 - 3 minutes)

The Vantage

The beginning 1977

The Vantage a V8 powered car that pushed Aston Martin into the 1970's supercar genre, giving them the strength to achieve 'Producers of the World's fastest 4 seater production car'.

The Vantage name had a growing reputation already famed through various racing victories and its debut in Ian Fleming's James Bond, this type of publicity gave the car and Aston Martin in general the momentum to take on the global market.

The car soon became known as 'The car you would own one day'.

This phenominal automobile weighed a staggering 4000 lbs and was powered by a 5.3 litre quad cam V8 capable of producing 375 BHP and pushing the Vantage to a top speed of 170 mph.

The Aston Martin DB series of cars were already made famous by its earlier appearances in early James Bond films. David Brown, however wanted a 4 seater car faster than any other. In 1963 the British company embarked on a journey to develop a faster and better 4 seater. The project was plagued with continual engine problems, due to this the V8 wasn't ready till 1969.
The DBS V8 was formally launched in 1969 after being hampered by ownership changes & two shut downs this seriously delayed production of the new DBS Vantage. However the situation continued to get worse until enthusiasts and the new owners George Minden, Peter Sprague, & joined later by Alan curtis resurrected the car in 1978. Production continued for a further 12 years, until the new Vantage was released in 1993.

AM has gone from strength to strength in recent years with Models such as the ONE, the Vanquish and with the dawn of the Aston Martin EV.
