BREAKING NEWS: We've just had the T90EV on full review - to find out more, watch it here:

Maxus is always one we want to see at The CV show and this year, well they have certainly pulled it out of the bag. A fully Electric pickup BEV, not a hybrid, the Maxus T90ev. Well we can't wait to get behind the wheel of this one.

From the off you can see it has the new Maxus design language, sleek modern, large grille and it looks at first looks a pretty damn good electric pickup truck. If anything, it looks a bit like an L200, with some of it's styling, now this isn't a bad thing especially as sadly Mitsubishi pulled out of the UK market some years ago, it's rather a clever move; it shows the market Maxus are going after with the T90ev. This is a motor industry first.

The T90ev is powered by an 89kWh lithium battery and a 150kW electric motor, which delivers 201bhp and offers a range of 220 miles an increase from 198 when it was unveiled. The bottom line is, this is the first electric pickup in the UK. In the US it's a different matter, the Rivian and the Ford Lightning are both available in America, however when it comes to the UK this is a cutting edge BEV commercial vehicle.

Through the window, you can see a fair bit, modern design language, and it looks like a truck, a big plus - plush materials yet strong build quality and robust. The model we saw was fitted with a 10 and a 1/4 inch infotainment screen, 17 inch alloys and a sport bar.

It also comes with a reversing camera, rear parking sensors and an outside rope hook. It may well have more, more info to follow.

Our first view of this was at the unveiling at the CV show this week and as we found out later it was an Italian Spec variant and it was locked, meaning we were unable to get inside it to have a really good look.

Don't you just love pickups with a substantial options list, like the SsangYong Musso, well for the T90EV from Maxus you can get extras from functionality, practicality to exterior styling.

But the seats do look comfortable, which look to be good enough for a workhorse robust yet supportive, ideally great for a long journey too.

Bear in mind this is not the UK spec the Chinese spec from Italy we suspect, therefore it's it's not likely verified for UK roads.

Taking a deeper look at the T90 BEV we can see a rather familiar rotary dial very similar to the MG EV's not surprising when you think both Maxus and MG are SAIC companies.

Looking into the rear area looks spacious, I can see some charging cables, Rapid and Type 2 charging capabilities.

Double cab is always welcome and as this guise looks to be aimed at the leisure market, it makes sense as perfect family electric pickup truck, not only can you carry your  family or your team as well as a payload. Although it's not as versatile as it could be off road as due to the rear motor position and dif, this does affect the ground clearance and it's only currently available as a rear wheel drive.

Payload and Towing

  • Towing, there were no details available at the T90 unveiling, however now it appears to have a tow limit of 1.5T / 1500kg
  • Payload is 740kg, however now this has been uprated to 1T / 1000kg
The T90ev was not classified as a commercial vehicle at the event, this has since changed, meaning VAT claims and company vehicle eligibility are all Go, fill your boots.
