Ex-F1 engineers produce testbed for autonomous technologies in aid to unify and reduce the cost of driverless testing.
The British based business StreetDrone has officially launched its affordable autonomous and unique vehicle – the StreetDrone ONE– From the Munich NVIDIA GPU conference in Munich yesterday.
The vehicle has been designed as an autonomous technology with a purpose of addressing divergence, and the growing costs and siloed research for businesses across
autonomous sector.
The Street Drone has been developed and engineered by a team of ex-F1 engineers near Oxford, the ONE utilises 6 HD cameras, 4G connectivity and is powered by NVIDIA, yes the computer GPU people, there tech supports smart data collection and sharing. The single seater autonomous car has been specifically designed to trial both software and engineering solutions with vehicles that will be fitted to road cars in the coming years.

The StreetDrone CEO, Mark preston and ex-F1 Team Principal, commented: “What makes StreetDrone ONE so unique is that it allows businesses to focus on their specific area of interest in the self-driving market and customise the testbed to their requirements. This significantly reduces the complexity of research and saves both time and money as the industry seeks to rapidly expand.”
“We’re using F1 technology to gain new insights into how we can make autonomous cars safer, more efficient and more reliable, while putting them to the test in real-world conditions on the roads.”

With the StreetDrone ONE being competitively priced at just £49,500 it's in a unique position with only a few competitiors, the autonomous car also has testing capabilities with students in mind too, aloowing institutions and their students to test existing software and use that data to design their own future autonomy capable cars more safe, efficient and affordable – allowing them to learn practical industry experience whilst developing for the future.

Mike Potts, Managing Director of StreetDrone, commented: “This is a very fragmented marketplace and we’re trying to build a suite of standardised tools so that technology companies can meet the growing demand for autonomous products. This is a new but very lucrative industry, and StreetDrone ONE can help get new products to market faster.”

Studies have predicted the driverless or autonomous vehicle industry will be worth over $7 trillion by 2050, making the market an extremely viable option, autononomy in vehicles will save over 250 million hours of commuting time per year.

StreetDrone ONE deliveries, a car based on Renault Twizy electric vehicle, are expected to begin before the end of 2017
