(Reading time: 1 - 2 minutes)

It's not every time you embark on a work trip that turns out to be an unforeseen adventure of the car kind.

We arrived at heysham harbour where I first saw a Corrado (a wolf in sheeps clothing I later found out), and a lot of enclosed car transporters and a few open ones. After milling around and chatting to people we deduced it was the May Manx rally weekend.

Now I'd completely forgotten about this as there are a few car rallies in the Isle of Man, this one the air sport one held in May and the Manx rally held in September.

The iom rally starts at the grand stand, where all the teams, support and timekeepers etc are based. Where the great guy in the VR6 Supercharged Corrado his 10th one, who happened to be the commentator for the rally, and even stranger lived just down the road and was a part of our local car club KLMC informed us this is where the magic happens.

Already we've seen a Peugeot 205 mi 16, 2 litre 16v Astra GTE powered Nova with light pod and LED light set up, Mk2 Escort and a Pug 106.
The May Manx Rally starts at the TT Grandstand and carries on to Ramsey 120 cars have signed up and if you'd like to keep up with our coverage of the Isle of Man Rally check out our planet auto Instagram page.

Over the next few days we expect to see a lot of 70s, 80s, 90s retro rally cars and perhaps a few modern ones, we've been informed there is at least one Mk2 Golf performing, gentlemen and women start your engines.
